1970s Cowrie Shell Bug Squash Blossom
Qty:
Cowrie Shells were some of the earliest successful forms of currency, particularly for areas around the Indian Ocean and African Coast. The cowrie’s shape is sometimes said to represent the female form. It is now used in jewelry and for decoration. The cowrie shell is considered a protective shell and was often worn on the outfits of hunters and warriors or woven into ceremonial dress. This is an unusual material to see in a Navajo squash blossom and the shells and silverwork pair together beautifully.
